Transactions

In the exhibition Transactions, the University of Zurich, as part of Manifesta 11, transforms its main building into an experimental space for artistic and scientific exploration. Starting from the Manifesta theme "What people do for money," the relationships, shifts, and dependencies of money, happiness, health, and justice in the context of work are discussed.

The title "Transactions" is inspired by one of the oldest continuously published scientific journals: the Philosophical Transactions, founded in 1665. To this day, the journal encompasses all scientific disciplines. In the spirit of these philosophical transactions, we have invited diverse artistic perspectives and researchers from all faculties to engage in a multidisciplinary exchange.

A significant portion of the showcased artistic works was specially designed or further developed for the exhibition, and the participating scientists collaborated with artists from the fields of stage design and fine arts to implement their projects. The scenography of the exhibition by Prisca Baumann, Michela Flück, and Regula Zuber, in turn, reveals connections between the individual exhibits.
