Sozialwissenschaftliche Theorien in der Migrationsforschung

Global migration and social integration have become dominant issues of public and scholarly debate. Especially sociology and social anthropology are investigating – from different points of view – people’s motives to leave their homes, their way of establishing new places of residence, as well as the maintenance of relationships to the countries of origin. The objective of this workshop is to promote an interdisciplinary discussion of theoretical approaches which aim to identify the fundamental causes of migration and its consequences. In this context, the question whether migration can be traced back to rational decisions of individual actors becomes crucial.

Wurzeln und Puzzle waren die beiden ersten Wörter, welche mir bei diesem Projekt durch den Kopf gingen. Der Mensch reisst sich aus seiner gewohnten Umgebung heraus und pflanzt sich woanders ein. Die Hülle jedes Einzelnen bleibt dabei dieselbe, doch füllt sie sich mit anderen Inhalten. Meine Visualisierung zeigt eine mögliche Zerstückelung entwurzelter Menschen.
